You Have Questions and We Have Answers!
Who are you, and who do you work with?
A&W Millwork & Upholstery is a family‑owned company that began as a mom‑and‑pop shop in 1965. Today we’re a high‑end custom millwork and upholstery firm serving designers, builders, contractors and architects nationwide. In other words, we’re a trade‑only shop—if you’re a homeowner, you’ll want to involve a design professional so we can collaborate through them.
What services do you offer?
We design and build custom millwork (think reception desks, conference tables, display cases, built‑ins, vanities and other architectural wood elements) as well as upholstery for hospitality and commercial settings—booths, banquettes, bar stools, lounge seating, wall panels, hotel furnishings and more. We also fabricate upholstered wall panels and coverings for a luxurious finish.
What’s the difference between millwork and upholstery?
Millwork refers to custom woodwork: reception desks, tables, trim, cabinetry and other built‑in elements. Upholstery covers seating and soft goods—anything with fabric, padding or leather. We often combine both disciplines on a project; for example, a banquette might involve custom millwork framing and upholstered cushions.
How does your process work?
Every project follows three phases: Design consultation, Creation, and Installation. During consultation we discuss your vision and specifications. Our team then creates the pieces using high‑quality materials and, once finished, we deliver and install everything on site so you don’t have to coordinate multiple vendors. Need temporary storage? We have short‑term storage in our facility for pieces awaiting installation.
What industries do you serve?
We primarily serve hospitality (hotels, resorts, restaurants and bars), corporate interiors, builders and contractors, music venues, casinos and large‑scale residential projects. We also collaborate with independent interior designers.
Where do you operate?
Our shop is headquartered near Nashville, Tennessee. We serve Middle Tennessee—from Mount Pleasant to Nashville and everywhere in between—and we take on projects for clients across the United States. For shipping and manufacturing, our facility is at 1531 E. Burt Dr., Columbia, TN.
How long have you been in business?
We’ve been perfecting this craft for more than 50 years. A&W started in 1965 and has grown from a small upholstery shop into a respected manufacturing company with a national reputation. Bubba Austin, our owner, learned the trade behind a sewing machine as a kid and took over the family business in 1996.
What sets you apart from other shops?
A few things: we bring an engineer’s perspective to our millwork, offer CNC capabilities and shop drawings, and insist on meticulous craftsmanship and high‑quality materials. Our upholstery services include design consultation, creation, delivery and installation, and we offer in‑house storage. And yes, we’re still family‑owned and pride ourselves on client collaboration.
Do you provide free quotes?
Absolutely. Each service page on our site invites you to request a free quote. Send us your specs, and we’ll discuss your needs, timeline and budget—no strings attached.
How do I get started?
If you’re a contractor, builder or designer, start by emailing us at office@awnash.com or info@awnash.com, or call (615) 332‑7911. Because we work by appointment to minimize interruptions, please get in touch before stopping by. We’ll schedule a consultation, review your plans and get your project rolling.
Do you build for homeowners?
We’re a trade‑only shop, which means our projects flow through design and construction professionals. If you’re a homeowner with a vision, we’re happy to connect you with a designer or contractor who can work with us to bring it to life.
What areas do you serve?
A&W Millwork & Upholstery is headquartered just outside Music City, and our core service area is Middle Tennessee. If you’re in or near Nashville, Columbia, Spring Hill, Franklin, Brentwood, Mount Pleasant or any of the surrounding communities, we’re your local partner. That said, we don’t stop at the county line — our team regularly takes on projects for hospitality brands and designers across the United States. Think of us as Middle Tennessee natives with a national footprint: close enough for a coffee in downtown Columbia and experienced enough to outfit hotels from Dallas to New York
